One of the most hotly anticipated events in the Shadowfam’s calendar is less than one month away! Heroes of the Shadow World (April 3rd-5th, in New York City) is a convention dedicated to Freeform’s Shadowhunters, and will feature a ton of cast and crew guests. I’ll be making my way over from England to join in the fun as a panel room moderator, so here’s a list of five things I’m personally looking forward to the most.
And, because you are all so amazing, I’m also going to give you a chance to win an At Home pass and a $200 voucher for Heroes of the Shadow World so you can be part of the action! (scroll down for details)
#1 Visiting New York City
Location, location, location! With the convention hotel right in Times Square, we’ll only have to step outside to be in one of the city’s most iconic places. I’ll be hitting up the NY Institute on the Upper West Side (a.k.a. The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine), walking the High Line, doing a spot of shopping – and visiting the Shadowhunters bench in Central Park!
#2 Meeting (and maybe making) friends
Being part of the Shadowfam is a wonderfully international experience, and I am looking forward to finally meeting a lot of the people I know and love in person! Another amazing thing about attending a convention is knowing everyone around you loves something like you do, and what better way to make friends? I’m really looking forward to getting to know people I would never have had the chance to without both this con and this fandom.
#3 Running Panels
I’ve mentioned it before, but I can’t quite believe how fortunate I am to be given the opportunity to be a panel room moderator. Panels are probably my favorite thing about conventions; and there promises to be a wealth of interesting ones here! Open to everyone with a pass, there’ll be plenty of unique experiences to be had. Not to mention, we’ve got a bunch of amazing moderators to help keep things exciting (not that I’m biased!). You’ll find Emma and Taylor from Fan City Central, and Marissa from Hidden Remote, as well as myself (proudly representing Basic Stuff Magazine). Having moderators that are fans themselves promises to add a different dimension, and I for one can’t wait!
#4 Meeting the crew who worked on the show
How many shows do you know of where the name of the lead make-up artist or location manager is well known, let alone where they’re invited to a convention? I certainly can’t think of any! With several crew members attending the con as guests, as well as participating in workshops showcasing their craft, this really promises to add another perspective on the vital work that went into making this show we all love and adore. Check out our Shadowhunters Debriefs series, where we spoke in-depth to many of the amazing crew who worked behind the scenes.
#5 Cast reunion
What a lineup of guests! Heroes of the Shadow World has seven out of the eight main Shadowhunters cast members attending, as well as a whole host of other wonderful people who worked on the show – some of whom that have never attended a con before! While I’m certainly looking forward to meeting them all, I’m extra excited to know that this will also be such a celebration for the guests, to see so many of their friends and colleagues in one place and for such a joyful purpose!
