Welcome back to our podcast What’s the Obsession With…? Hosts Brie and Adri (and sometimes a special guest) explore the ins and outs of people’s fixations, one obsession at a time. We tackle some research, personal stories, and some totally unfounded theories on all sorts of topics people have been obsessed with for ages.
Each episode comes with a themed Spotify playlist, our research notes and links, and the occasional drinking game! Subscribe to our Patreon for various extra goodies (like monthly personalized postcards, and picking our next topic).
#004 “…the End of the World?”
Given the current state of the world, and with our hosts both currently in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we felt it was a good time to explore humankind’s obsession with The End. In our fourth episode, recorded from a safe social distance, we dive into how cultures around the world – and throughout the ages – have spent much time and effort imagining a myriad of inventive ways in which our civilizations and societies might end. What’s up with that? What drives us to try to predict (and sometimes prepare for) the alleged end of the world? Is there some kind of comfort in the pastoral simplicity of a post-apocalyptic world? From Zombie!Jesus to asteroids, join Adri and Brie as they try to figure out what’s the obsession with the end of the world.
