Meet Lisa Gründer! Also known as ‘crisscolfersarfati,’ she is a 19-year-old artist from Germany. She took some time to speak with us her process and share some stunning examples of her artwork.
Describe yourself in three words.
Realist, introvert, artsy.
How long have you been creating art? What is your favorite medium?
I started drawing about four years ago. I liked drawing since I was little, but I really got into it in school after we had to create a self-portrait (that I absolutely hated BTW).
I love to work digitally at the moment, but it changes. Digital is the most convenient for me at the moment as I travel a lot between university and my hometown – I can take my tablet with me wherever I go.

What fandoms have you been in and made art for?
My first fandom was Glee; that was also the first fandom I drew a portrait for. After Glee ended I luckily discovered Shadowhunters and got into drawing characters from the show. In between, I also did a few drawings for The 100, Hannibal, Marvel and a few others. Right now I’m obsessing over The Politician so I will probably start drawing characters from that show in the near future.
Even though I mostly draw realistic portraits from photos, it takes ages for me to decide on one pic for reference. Other than that, I don’t do any planning; I just get straight into the linework, and later, the coloring layers. I get quite lost in the drawing process and I work really slowly so my detailed traditional pieces take ±50h and the digital ones about ±10-15 hours. Especially with the digital pieces, I never know when to stop so I sometimes get back to a drawing after weeks to add details.
What do you find the most challenging to draw?
My greatest weaknesses are drawing lips/teeth and hands. But even to get the linework done can take ages as I find it difficult to work out the exact proportions sometimes.
What is your favorite episode of Shadowhunters and why?
That’s a hard one. I really want to say the whole Season 3B was brilliant, but if I had to choose one, I would have to pick the series finale as I loved how the writers of the show included so many brilliant scenes such as Jonathan’s death, the Malec wedding, Clary in art school, Clary asking Izzy to be her Parabatai…
The mood of the final scene between Jace and Clary really got under my skin and I personally loved every second of it.
Who is your favorite character to draw and why?
I mostly draw Clary or more precisely Katherine McNamara. I love to draw her hair and eyes and there are tons of great photoshoots and scenes from Shadowhunters to choose from. In general, I draw whatever photo I like best; it doesn’t matter whether it’s male or female, but I need to fall in love with either a pose or a lighting situation…in order to decide to draw the picture.
What do you love about Shadowhunters, and what inspired you to start drawing fanart for it?
I especially love how the show became better and better. To be honest, I was really skeptical after Season 1, but I continued to watch the show; the character developments were simply outstanding. From an artists’ perspective, I love how the creators imply a certain mood just by the color concept of the scene. For example, the whole series finale has a yellowish undertone except for the scene when Clary talks to Jonathan. I love drawing those aesthetically pleasing looking scenes 😅.
To be honest, I don’t know why I started doing fanart in the first place, so I guess I just created a habit of drawing scenes from series that I love, making it even more fun.
What has been your favorite work of fanart you have created? What do you love about it?
I don’t think that I have a favorite one. There are a few ones that I especially love. Mostly when I learn to understand a medium, pieces get better. I love a drawing of Kat that I did, so much so that is also my profile pic at the moment. It is really detailed and was a lot of fun to draw. I tend to love my drawings that are either extremely detailed or quite simple. Because I could not choose a drawing from the Shadowhunters, I think my favorite drawing is the one of Robert Downey Jr. a.k.a. Tony Stark. I love the mood, lighting, and the textures of that piece.
What has been the best part of your fandom experience so far?
I love the community; they are really supportive and give so much love. Once one of my drawings was “stolen” and used in a competition – the Shadowhunters fandom got really involved and supported me. They always have a word of encouragement.
