Welcome to our superlatives for Shadowhunters 3×14 “A Kiss From a Rose,” and can we right away express our disappointment that we didn’t hear the Seal classic play even once during the episode? We did, however, enjoy the general Frozen atmosphere the episode seemed to have going on, what with the Clace ice-skating date, Maia and Jordan trapped in the Jade Wolf’s fridge, and the positively frigid caverns of Lorenzo Rey’s heart. Here are some of the tid-bits we can’t stop thinking about!
1: Worst Deal:
In which Lorenzo Rey would have the meanest offer on Shark Tank.
Talk about being in the room where it happens! Magnus takes a pretty raw deal from Lorenzo in exchange for a magical recharge, and, honestly, we weren’t convinced it was worth all the pain until Magnus’ conversation with Alec about how he doesn’t feel like he matters without it. A material possession – even a really, really cool one like that gorgeous loft – can’t hold a candle (even though it’s held many candles…you know what we mean) to his ability to feel whole again. We just hope this deal doesn’t backfire, but this is Shadowhunters, so of course, Magnus is ominously bleeding by the end of the episode. Neato.
2. Biggest Awwww:
Clary and Jace, out on the ice.
This week we loved seeing Clary and Jace out on a bonafide date – this time without awkward exes as company. It was an adorable gesture on Jace’s part to take a few cues from the photos in Clary’s bedroom of her more carefree days and take her ice skating – something he turns out not to be a total expert at. It’ll probably be a shock to quite a few of you to know that in real life, Dom Sherwood is actually an ice-skating expert and Kat McNamara is the newbie! What a shame Jonathan had to come and spoil the romantic fun with his incestuous nonsense. Seriously, why does this keep happening to Clary?! Which brings us to…
3: Weekly Dose of Incest:
Honestly, we are seriously having to do this one again?
On that unfortunate note, we cannot impress upon everyone enough how grossed out we are that we keep on having to use this damn superlative! Will the icky incestual overtones of the Morgenstern family never cease? At this point, we’ve just about crossed every line there is to cross. Hijacking your sister’s date and posing as her boyfriend for the rest of the day? And kissing her?! Jaime Lannister called, Jonathan, he wants to talk to you about the pros and cons of making out with your sister.
Those are our top takeaways for the week, hit us up on Twitter and share yours!
Shadowhunters airs on Freeform on Mondays at 8pm EST and is available the following day to stream on Hulu and Netflix International.
