From problem-solving parent dates, supportive siblings, and reunited lovers, Shadowhunters 3×13 “Beati Bellicosi” was all about teamwork. Our favorite prom queen reject Heidi was also back in town to mess with the Accords and keep the Praetor Lupus on their toes while she continues her single-minded search for Simon. Isabelle and Alec were trying to get to the bottom of the Clave’s nefarious activities. Meanwhile, Simon and Maia called it quits…for super mature and responsible reasons, actually. But our dreams of #AlphaMaia rising were put on hold as the New York wolf pack got all but wiped out. Check out our bite-size bests for this week!
1: Wild As Hell:
Now we see where Alec gets it from.
GET IT, MAMMA LIGHTWOOD! After audiences clued in last season to the delicious sexual tension between Maryse and Luke, we are so happy that this ship is finally sailing. Maryse saw the brave, hot single dad in front of her and just went for it. It turns out Alec Lightwood isn’t the only one in this family that is Wild As Hell. Nicola and Isaiah also have such natural chemistry every time they are onscreen. And, hey, if Maryse and Luke get married, would that mean Luke would complete the set and become everyone’s dad? He would even end up Magnus’ father-in-law once Malec eventually tie the knot (*wink, wink, nudge, nudge*).
2: Biggest Inconvenience:
That damn demonic rune.
That “lifeforce-sharing” rune Lilith carved into Clary and Jonathan is really starting to get on our nerves. After Jonathan burns himself to get Clary’s attention, it turns out he’s discovered the world’s most painful instant messenger by carving cute little messages into his arm and effectively Clary’s. To top it off, the rune proves to be more than a little stubborn when Jace tries to hack at it with the Rune Remover 2000. At least we can rest assured (thanks to one of the show’s writers, Taylor Mallory) that Jonathan isn’t privy to his sister’s more…positive physical experiences – because that would have been even more creepy.
3: The Best:
Alec Lightwood is the best boyfriend and best sibling. He’s just all around The Best.
Not all brothers on Shadowhunters are creepshows! Alec Lightwood has been killing it lately with the pep-talks (we expect nothing less at this point). So far, we’ve seen him pull out all the stops to surround Magnus and Jace with as much love and reassurance as he can muster and this week, it’s his sister’s turn. From backing her in getting to the bottom of the Clave’s sketchy suspected Downworlder torture business to not-so-subtly trying to invite her to open up about her addiction cravings, Alec was being The Best. Extra kudos are in order for him taking the time to research addiction and understand the type of support Isabelle would need from him.
4: Hottest Fire Code Violation:
Clace were on fire – both figuratively, and very nearly literally.
This week’s hottest scene goes to Clace for a couple of reasons. First, it’s about time those two lovebirds christened Jace’s Institute bedroom. And secondly, all of those precariously-placed candles are clearly a fire hazard. We just hope Alec has been keeping fire extinguisher placements around the Institute up to code. Seriously, it’s like everyone on this show is all, “If I’m not lighting 1,000 candles, why even bother?” Threat of an inferno aside, it was worth it for the beautiful moment we got – complete with a Jace quote we’re pretty sure some superfans have already made into tattoos: “I’ll love you until I die…and if there’s a life after this, I’ll love you then, too.” Well said. We’re puddles of romanced goo on the floor!
