This week’s episode of Freeform’s Shadowhunters featured some Clace rooftop shenanigans, new meaning for the term “salty,” and Grandmother Herondale coming through for #TeamGood in her dying hour. You can read our full review here, but below are some of our bite-size bests from episode 3×07.
1: Worst Day Ever:
Clary’s wish turns into her worst nightmare.
No amount of training with Jace prepared Clary for actually fighting against him! He told her straight to her face that he didn’t love her anymore and then dropped her from several stories high onto the hood of a car. Her day then went from terrible to the Worst Day Ever after she portaled her friends away and got herself arrested. When will this girl ever stop doing the whole “hero sacrifice” thing? The answer is probably never. She really should’ve learned that handy portal suction maneuver that only Madzie seems to know how to use. Or, you know, just jumped in after.
2: Most Useful Plot Device:
The Malachi Configure-What-Now?
Thank the Angel Izzy has knowledge about random inventions in the Alicante armory created by backstabbing traitors (still not over that and neither is Alec). A cage created to hold greater demons, this device was more than capable of containing Owl Jace. On a more shallow note, in addition to being a super Useful Plot Device, that blue accent lighting worked wonders on our already attractive cast. Too bad it doesn’t also include a mute button to block out all of Owl Jace’s inane sass.
3: Longest Hug:
Malec hug it out for, like, the longest time.
Alec decided the best way to make up with Magnus after their most recent fight was to hold Magnus hostage in his arms so that he couldn’t run away until they both apologized to each other, dammit! The shoulder nuzzle Magnus got in there was super sweet. But sadly, no amount of hugging can bypass the looming immortality issue still hanging like a cloud over their adorable heads.
4: Best Bodyguard:
“And Simon-eee-eon will always love Luke-ooh-ooh-uke.”
If you tell Simon Lewis you want him to be your bodyguard, you better believe he’s gonna come at you with those Whitney Houston references. And Simon just keeps unlocking new superpowers. We knew the Mark of Cain could protect him from harm, but this was the first time we’d seen it do anything like this. Turning her devoted followers into salt seemed to cause some serious damage points to the Queen of Edom. Are possessed attackers the only ones who turn into salt upon impact? Or is just demonic energy in general? Does this mean Simon has to defeat each one of Lilith’s disciples like horcruxes in order to ultimately defeat her? #ProtectOllie
5: Episode MVP:
Imogen gives Jace a fighting chance.
Jace murdering his last living relative was unexpected to say the least. Stabbed through the back and short a thumb, Imogen managed to remain badass right up until her very last breath and snagged this week’s Episode MVP. Grandmother Herondale was the reason that the Jewels of the New York Institute were even able to attempt to save Jace from his demonic possession. She seemed unwilling to go against the Clave at first, but her fire message warning to Alec showed she still had hope that her grandson could be saved even though she laid dying at his hand.
Shadowhunters airs Tuesdays 8/7c on Freeform and Wednesdays internationally on Netflix.
