This episode of Freeform’s Shadowhunters featured a surprising number of Star Wars parallels, a magical scavenger hunt, and Alec planting his feet firmly outside of the closet. Check out some of our bite-size bests from episode 1×13.
1: Popcorn Worthy:
Jace turns to the dark side.
Jace seemed to be going through the motions this episode in a galaxy far, far away as he turned to the dark side (discovering your father is the bad guy can have that effect on you sometimes). Watching Jace slice Hodge’s hand off with a double-sided lightsaber – sorry, seraph blade – and hearing him recite juicy lines like, “He raised me to be a killer; now I’m gonna make him regret it,” was all kinds of Popcorn Worthy. Sign him up for the next trilogy.
2: Wild As Hell:
Everything about Alec out in the open.
“If you have a problem with that, then I suggest you deal with it.” After kissing Magnus in front of everyone at his wedding, there was no going back for Alec. We loved seeing him so confident and unapologetic about himself, with a “this is who I am, take it or leave it” attitude. Alec Lightwood is Wild as Hell and everyone else just needs to catch up.
3: Most Awkward Moment:
Camille locks lips with Magnus in front of Alec.
“Well, this is awkward.” Understatement of the century. In typical Camille “I’m here to ruin everything” Belcourt fashion, she planted a big one on Magnus just as Alec was entering the room. The awkward levels only rose as everyone felt the need to talk about each other as if they weren’t all standing right there. Izzy was talking to Magnus about Camille, Camille was talking to Magnus about Alec… Thankfully, Alec took the mature approach by not letting it get to him, and he even exchanged a pointed silent look with Magnus that seemed to show he properly gauged the situation. Well done, Alec; 10 points to Hufflepuff.
4: Smartest Cookie:
Clary was a very observant child.
Clary wowed us again with her impressive ability to retain pertinent details from her childhood (especially considering she was subjected to memory wipes on the regular). She was able to decipher the puzzle her mother left behind and determine that the Book of the White had been cloaked as a cookbook. But what if she really did want to make chicken cacciatore though?
Shadowhunters airs Tuesdays 8/7c on Freeform and Wednesdays internationally on Netflix.
