This week’s episode of Freeform’s Shadowhunters featured the ship of dreams, nice guys definitely not finishing last, and Magnus demonstrating once again that he can sleuth with the best of them (we are just waiting for him to name-drop Sherlock Holmes next). Check out some of our bite-size bests from episode 3×06.
1: Least Amount of Chill:
Heidi gives literal meaning back to the term “stan.”
“By the way this girl’s reacting, doesn’t sound like she has anybody.” We’d say Maia hit the proverbial nail on the head with this assessment. We don’t blame Heidi for clinging to the kindness that Simon showed her, what with others only using and abusing her. We also don’t blame her for taking one look at Sizzy and thinking it was true love (Rosa Santiago did the same thing in 2×12). But this girl’s chill levels are exceptionally low. We hope the Praetor has some luck in tampering them down to something saner because we feel for the poor thing!
2: Best New Ship:
Maruke is everything.
If anyone had any doubts Luke still had his charm…ah, who are we kidding? We knew he still had it in him, it’s just been a while since we’ve seen it. Fresh (and we mean fresh) off making his rounds of fatherly advice, he personally saw to it that Maryse be on the receiving end of his next heart-to-heart, only there was nothing fatherly about this one. This exchange was all flirting and heart eyes and had us squealing over finally getting to see the fulfillment of the couple we’ve been shipping since their short but sweet interaction at the Downworlder cabinet meeting last season. Maryse’s Season 3 arc has been some genius storytelling that plays perfectly into giving solid emotional groundwork to some already steamy chemistry. We cannot wait to see Maruke (or is it Laryse?) rise.
3: Nicest Guy:
Underhill (not underhanded after all).
Normally when a character on a television drama seems super nice, we instantly get our hackles up. And usually we are right to do so (case in point: Sebastian). But as it turns out, in Underhill’s case, he’s actually a perfectly respectable gentleman, and a Malec shipper to boot (a man after our own hearts). His defense of Maryse at the beginning of the episode had him off to a great start and then he just kept earning house points left and right. Referring to Magnus as Alec’s “better half”? 10 points to Hufflepuff! Bringing up the idea that Shadowhunters typically only love once and fiercely ? Give this man all the points! Two gay guys on TV being allowed to be just friends? Who knew?
4: Closest Call:
Charlie is also a nice guy (which is not good for him).
When we saw Charlie glowing, we feared our handsome (and apparently virtuous) vending-machine aficionado doctor would definitely be the Owl’s next victim. But then Ollie walked into the Hunter’s Moon and proved herself to be just as virtuous. He also came pretty close to finding out the truth about Isabelle and her family. Ironically, for something called the Shadow World, anyone who finds themselves crossing paths with it doesn’t stay in the dark about it for long.
5: Problem Solver Extraordinaire:
Magnus connects the dots.
After hearing from Clary that Jace had been acting detached ever since he came back from his treatment at the Silent City which he never attended (that tidbit courtesy of Brother Zachariah), Magnus realized that the falling-out-of-love elixir he brewed for the mysterious woman must have been meant for Jace. And as for the “why” of this equation, they needed to look no further than the next alleyway, where they stumbled across the Owl taking his latest victim. Now let’s just hope Magnus can find an antidote for said elixir in his spellbook (and that the Owl will let Ollie go the way he did Morgan).
Shadowhunters airs Tuesdays 8/7c on Freeform and Wednesdays internationally on Netflix.
