Meet Melek! Known as ‘PrettyboyyAlec,’ she is a 20-year-old artist and fandom member from Finland.
Describe yourself in three words.
Positive. Social. Energetic.
How long have you been drawing?
I’ve been into drawing ever since I was a kid, but I’ve had longer breaks of not drawing anything in years. Shadowhunters really got me into drawing again.
What kind of medium or equipment do you use?
When I’m doing sketches, I use a simple pencil or a ballpoint pen. Very recently, I’ve started using an app called Sketchbook Pro on my iPad for digital arts.
How did you get involved in the Shadowhunters fandom?
I got a suggestion from a friend to check out the show and I kept seeing tweets of Alec Lightwood (on my previous fandom account), so my curiosity got the best of me and I started watching the show. Right after watching Episode 1×04, I knew I was hooked and I immediately made a Shadowhunters fan account on Twitter.
Who is your favorite character to draw and why?
My favorite character to draw is Magnus. He is such an interesting character with so much artistic potential. His colorful and stylish clothes, different hairstyles, and accessories are an incredible joy to draw.
What ships do you ship, and why you love them so much?
MALEC. I always find it hard to explain why I love these characters and this ship so much and put it into words how much they mean to me. No other ship has ever made me feel the way Malec does. It’s so beautiful and special. I have never shipped anything in my life as hard as I ship Malec.
What is your favorite episode of Shadowhunters and why?
I have to say two episodes: 1×12 and 2×18. No other scene has EVER impacted me the way Malec’s first kiss did. I was a screaming, laughing, and crying mess when Alec walked down to Magnus and smooched him right on the face in front of all those people. It never fails to give me the feels no matter how many times I’ve seen it. As for 2×18, I think it’s one of the most important Malec episodes. It fixed so many things that were important to the fans. It had fluff, love, angst, and heartbreak all in one episode. Also the Season 1 flashback made me realize how much Alec and Magnus have grown as individuals and together.
What has been the best part of your fandom experience so far?
Getting to know so many amazing people, having new life-long friends, and just being able to talk about something that’s really important to me with so many people who share the same love/obsession for the show and Malec. Also the support and motivation this fandom has given me to start drawing again is one of the best things that has happened to me.
