Meet Julia! Known as ‘DakotaLIAR,’ she is a 26-year-old artist and fandom member from Russia.
Describe yourself in three words.
Stubborn. Inspired. Creative.
How long have you been drawing?
Well, I’ve been drawing professionally for four years as a digital artist. Before that, I’d been studying at a university in fine arts for five years. Sure, I’ve drawn all my childhood, but at that moment, I did not think about what I wanted in my future. But, at the end of school, I realized that art is all I can do and all that makes me happy, so here I am.
What kind of medium or equipment do you like to use?
For all four years that I’ve made a digital art, I’ve only preferred my Wacom tablet. I haven’t made traditional arts since I graduated, so, sure, sometimes I use my sketchbook, but not as often as I used to do while studying.
How did you get involved in the Shadowhunters fandom?
My friend tried to involve me in this fandom for many years, since Cassandra Clare published her books, but it came to me only with the TV show and that wedding kiss scene.
Who is your favorite character to draw and why?
I think that’s Alec, because he is very close to me as a character – all the emotions and uncertainty that he shows make him a very interesting person to examine and try to portray on the canvas.
What ships do you ship, and why you love them so much?
That is Malec for sure! Also, I can’t help but ship Jace and Alec sometimes. But talking about traditional couples, that is Simon and Izzy – they are too cute, especially in the other alternative world.
What has been the best part of your fandom experience so far?
The best part is when you see the response for you art. That is amazing to realize that not only fans like what you do but also some of the TV show cast. At that moment you understand that nothing is in vain.
