This episode of Freeform’s Shadowhunters featured some truly iconic Malec moments, Clary’s “boy toys” reluctantly doing a drugstore run, and flashbacks for days. Check out some of our bite-size bests from episode 1×06.
1: Most Reluctant Bros:
Jace and Simon take a trip to the Shadow World black market.
Even though they were at each other’s throats (literally), and Simon was having a little “I see dead people (who are me)” problem, he and Jace still managed to get the job done and bring Magnus the ingredients he needed. If nothing else, we hope these two at least learned that they can be a pretty solid team (and also make for entertainingly Reluctant Bros).
2: Biggest Drag:
Wall-to-wall flashbacks. All. Episode. Long.
Let’s talk about all those flashbacks. Not only did we already know most of this information anyway, some of it seemed to be playing for us on repeat (albeit from a slightly different angle)! All in all, they were a bit underwhelming, and took up precious episode time that could have been used for literally anything else – like more shirtless Luke maybe, or how about more of that Malec cocktail “date” (please)?
3: Least Tactful:
Read the room, Clary. Jeez.
Clary sure has quite the vivid imagination… While we admit the memories Magnus shared with her were pretty gruesome, was illustrating them really necessary? Nurturing Clary’s inner artist may have backfired on Magnus just a tad here.
4: Episode MVP:
Alec’s virgin Shadowhunter energy.
Was it that obvious or is Magnus just really perceptive? Either way, we don’t want to think about what would have happened if Alec hadn’t shown up in time to help the gang! And while we are still bummed about Malec’s missed connection last episode, this scene more than made up for it. Seeing Alec rush to Magnus’ side and clasp his hand in a show of support, trust, and strength made our hearts flutter! For having the power to literally save lives, and keeping our dear Luke alive, Alec’s virgin Shadowhunter energy is the Episode MVP.
5: Cutest Moment:
Malec share drinks and make googly eyes at each other.
“I think you’ve exerted yourself enough for one day.” Not only did Alec insist on sticking around to help Magnus clean up his loft, he even stayed for drinks despite his obvious (and adorable) distaste for alcohol. Magnus was more than a bit upfront about his feelings, and while Alec had a hard time knowing how to respond, he displayed some pretty intense bedroom eyes for someone so apparently inexperienced… There was nothing cryptic about the obvious mutual vibes these two were feeling.
Shadowhunters is available for streaming via Freeform for U.S. residents and internationally on Netflix. Shadowhunters returns with Season 3 on March 20th, 2018.
