This episode of Freeform’s Shadowhunters featured penultimate-worthy epic romance and shocking betrayal. Check out some of our bite-size bests from episode 1×12.
1: Problem Solver Extraordinaire:
Isabelle Lightwood, at your service.
“You stood by me for my trial and now I’m standing by you, big brother.” Not only did Izzy take the “headache” out of Alec’s wedding by planning the whole thing, she made sure to throw him a bachelor party, too. And after seeking Simon’s advice, she realized what Alec really needed was to reconcile with his Parabatai and become Para-bro-tai again (sorry). We also have her to thank for inviting Magnus to the wedding and providing the opening for him and Alec to come together. Izzy definitely has always known Alec better than he knows himself.
2: Episode MVP:
Magnus, with an assist from Ragnor Fell.
After throwing everything he had at Alec (including his heart) and meeting harsh rejection in return, Magnus was ready to fold. His rotten day only intensified when one of his oldest friends, Ragnor Fell, was killed right before his eyes. But Ragnor found a way to transcend realms and bestow upon Magnus the words of wisdom he so desperately needed to hear. Magnus putting his heart on the line and interrupting Alec’s wedding was insanely brave. He took a chance on love and stopped Alec from making the biggest mistake of his life. That’s more than enough reason to make him the Episode MVP.
3: Most Romantic Shit We’ve Ever Seen:
One kiss to rule them all.
Everything about this scene was iconic and romantic AF. Ruelle’s “War of Hearts” perfectly captured the heart-pounding gravitas of the moment as it unfolded on our screens. The epic push and pull between Malec had been building all season long, and finally getting to see it all pay off with a show-stopping smooch was everything. This kiss still tops any kiss they have shared since and it was their first one! Setting the precedent for what would later become Malec tradition, it is the Most Romantic Shit We’ve Ever Seen, and any fan would be content to watch this scene on repeat until the end of time.
4: Most Shocking Betrayal:
Hodge is the mole.
We knew that Hodge had a shady past, but up until this point, he had proven himself to be a trusted mentor by helping our Shadowhunters the best he could from within the confines of the Institute. Love is a hard thing to fake and the Lightwood siblings honestly believed that Hodge had put his Circle days behind him. Seeing him looming over the body of Jocelyn with the Mortal Cup and speaking to Valentine was a hard-hitting visual and the Most Shocking Betrayal we could have imagined.
Shadowhunters airs Tuesdays 8/7c on Freeform and Wednesdays internationally on Netflix.
