Holy time-jump, Batman! This episode of The Good Place had us flashing forward montage-style through the team’s year as the Brainy Bunch. Among other things, there was a forgotten Hemsworth, Eleanor learning a Very Special Lesson, and a not-so-secret-anymore magic doorway. Check out our list of the best stuff from episode 3×04!
The Evolution of Eleanor
We loved seeing Eleanor’s transition from someone who resists “pointless group activities” to the one who petitions to keep everyone together a year later. She specifically tells Simone that she hates hearing co-workers sing “Happy Birthday” and going to office Christmas parties – both things we see her do in the flash-forwards. Her speech to the group when it’s on the verge of disbanding and the fact that she wants to figure out why she lashed out at her friends shows that Eleanor’s grown so much in the last year, and this is especially evident in the fact that she is so worried about reverting back to her old trashbag self.
Simone really hit home when she asked Eleanor if she’d ever been a part of something she really cared about before. For the first time in her life, Eleanor is invested in other people beyond just herself. It hurts us to see how she feels about potentially losing them, even if they did reach a compromise with the Brainy Bunch Annual Reunion.
Janet and Michael, the Snow Plows
Being an effective snow plow isn’t as easy without powers, and we loved seeing the techniques Janet and Michael employed to make sure the group stays on the Good Path. Finding lucky lottery ticket number 186 from the bottom and calling Larry Hemsworth to get his jacket were inspired solutions, but somehow managing to find two Jacksonville Jaguars fans in Australia was what impressed us the most.
When One Door Opens…
Can we take a moment to say we’re worried about Michael? Because we’re worried about Michael. He’s invested so much into Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason; and he still feels the need to endlessly meddle to get things the way he feels they need to be. As much as he has faith in our Core Four, he doesn’t seem to fully trust them. All of this anxiety led him to open the doorway, which he accidentally revealed to the group. Not quite sure how he’s going to explain this away…
The Forgotten Fourth
We got a glimpse of Larry Hemsworth on the cover of Eleanor’s AUS Weekly in last week’s episode, but we were excited to see him make his full appearance this week. With overshadowing siblings in common, Tahani and Larry seem like a match made in the Good Place. As much as we enjoyed Larry’s introduction, we’re really hoping he doesn’t take Tahani too far away. They originally intended to head back to London to get married, but now that Tahani’s seen the door, will those plans be put on hold? Just don’t break Larry’s heart, Tahani. He’s a sensitive soul who loves you more than he loves people who don’t talk about his brothers!
The Good Place airs Thursdays 8/7c on NBC.
