When it comes to strong female characters on television, Shadowhunters is one show with a plethora of them. But one such female character that shows time and time again that there is nothing you can’t do in a pair of five-inch heels is none other than Shadowhunter warrior Isabelle Lightwood. From rescuing her friends and family to standing up for what’s right, Isabelle Lightwood is a force to be reckoned with. While the woman is almost always in top form, let’s take a stroll down memory lane as we reminisce on five times Isabelle showed us just how totally badass she can be.
1. The Escape from Hotel Dumort
In episode 1×13 “Morning Star,” Simon and our Shadowhunter ladies, Clary and Isabelle, went after the possessor of the Book of the White, Camille Belcourt, and ultimately broke her out of the Hotel Dumort. However, they ended up running into a little bit of trouble – a clan of angry vampires, to be exact. Just when it seemed like there wasn’t a way out, Isabelle literally burst through the wall to save the day. As if her entrance wasn’t enough, she strutted her way towards Raphael Santiago and his sunlight-trapped vampire clan to wave adios.
2. Izzy Takes a Stand Against the Clave
Too often we have seen the Clave use hasty, undeserved generalizations when it comes to arresting and convicting Downworlders. This was evident in episodes 1×09 “Rise Up” and 1×11 “Blood Calls to Blood,” when Isabelle was arrested for treason and tried for rescuing Meliorn from a Clave-sanctioned interrogation plan, which in turn, saved his life. Isabelle refused to let the Clave kill or torture a Downworlder and decided to take a stand. This action only further proved that Isabelle is not afraid to fight for what’s right and will always protect those who need it, no matter the personal consequences.
3. Fight Club
In episode 2×02 “A Door into the Dark,” Alec and Isabelle followed a lead on Valentine and tracked his last known whereabouts to an underground fight club. When a mountain of a man started hitting on her, her big brother, Alec, immediately came to her defense, but Izzy could handle herself. She decided to show this guy exactly what kind of woman she is and challenged him to a fight, then proceeded to beat his ass down. That’s our girl.
4. Isabelle Saves Alec and Aldertree
With the Institute under attack by Valentine and his Circle members in episode 2×10 “By the Light of Dawn,” Alec and Aldertree found themselves trapped and outnumbered during the takeover. Just as they were about to fight their way out, Isabelle showed up and rescued them. Even though she was struggling with her yin fen addiction and suffering the horrible effects of her withdrawal symptoms, Isabelle still managed to make mincemeat of the four Circle members all by herself.
5. Isabelle vs. Sebastian
Episode 2×19 “Hail and Farewell” saw Isabelle confronting Sebastian – the newly-revealed demonic Morgenstern, Jonathan – on the bridge amidst his fight with Jace. She finally got to face off with the person who lied to her, used her, and attempted to murder her brothers, Max and Jace. Isabelle cracked her whip and used it to stop Sebastian from killing Jace, which ultimately helped him win. This fight between Isabelle and Sebastian allowed her to get some much-needed closure and a little revenge as well.
